Bully, the documentary

Yesterday I watched the director of a documentary talk about the film, Bully, being released March 30th.   It is making the news right now because it is rated R.  Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) gave it this rating because of  “some language” in the film — roughly seven uses of the word “fuck” — [...]

Back in the Saddle Again

Yesterday I went out cross-country skiing for the first time since my unplanned overnight outing.   It was on a groomed trail about 30 miles from home that I had skied before.   A good choice for my re-entry. So many changes had been made since my last time out.  I had only one new item, boots. [...]

Why Chickens?

As I enter this annual spring dilemma about baby chicks, the question  “why chickens?”  is a question that begs to be asked again.  For me it is very simple I like to know where my food came from.  I am not extreme, in that I know living in a high cold desert I can’t  do [...]

Who’s the Doctor?

Those of you who follow my blog know I fight migraines.   I have participated in several studies  over the years and my management is 100% better than before.  I understand my triggers and what options that I can use to get the most control and prevention.  It isn’t a perfect system but I lose very [...]

Brooder in a Box

Something else good came out of my remodeled kitchen, a box I can use for a brooder for this year’s baby chicks.   For those of you unfamiliar with rasing chickens a brooder is a substitute for a mother.  Baby chicks need lots of help to stay warm and without a mother the responsibility falls to [...]

Horses…

I am not a horsewoman.  I am not comfortable around horses in any way.    They are big, very big and I am intiminated by their size.  In spite of this, I somehow have ended up caring for horses for my friends when they go on vacation.   My friends have left me in charge of [...]

Moving Forward

It has been a little over a week since I spent a winter night out in the elements.   I have started to move forward.   I ordered new cross-country ski boots to replace the pair that suffered from a night with my feet up next to the fire.   I am back on the [...]

In Love Everyday

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.  I have been married for 31 years.   I  first dated my husband about 35 years ago.  One would think that this means I have many years of exchanging cards and gifts with my husband.   In reality nothing could be further from the truth.   Long ago my husband and I  decided  to [...]

Unsung Community Heroes

I recently had an unplanned event that brought me in to contact with the unsung heroes of our local rural community.   These unsung heroes included the volunteer members of Search and Rescue, county sheriff’s department, family, friends, co-workers and members of the community. My husband and I were guests of a friend and her mother [...]
